CHARACTER
Character Name: Rukia Kuchiki
Character Age: Unknown, estimated +/- 150. Can pass as a high school student. Technically dead.
Canon: Bleach
Canon Point: Between Chapters three and four of The Death Save the Strawberry--pretty much during the post-423 time skip.
History: What would I do without the Bleach wikia?

Personality:
Rukia, on a first glance, is a proper and serious Shinigami, graceful and well-suited for her position as a member of a noble house and a vice-captain of the Gotei 13. There is far more to her than this though, and over the years she has changed and grown through her experiences and the people around her.

The general first impression most people have of Rukia is that she is graceful and noble, retiring and reserved. The nobility and grace seem to be an innate quality of some kind, since she's always been this way, even back when she lived in one of the worst areas of the Rukongai and talked like a boy, she always had that certain something. Because she grew up in such a situation she still has a humble quality to her, even though she's part of a noble family now. She's also always had a sense of fairness, also from those bad old days, shown when she makes sure that everyone got a share of the candy they had gotten hold of. She has grown into her new position somewhat and wants very much to make her adoptive brother proud, and to serve her squad as their vice-captain in a way that would make Kaien proud.

She tends to hide her deeper feelings and problems even from her friends, not wanting to burden them with those things. She can be very reserved, especially around people she doesn't know, and so sometimes has trouble making friends easily, a fact which even her captain noted. This actually meant at one point that she was very lonely, just after her expedited graduation and adoption into the Kuchiki family. Kaien's death didn't help matters in a lot of ways, and she spent a fair few years without any real friends. These days she can make friends, and has gotten much better at it in the last few years. Another issues at first was that she used to see friendship, and all those other assorted feelings, as a bit of a human frailty that she, being a shinigami and a soldier (essentially) should not have trouble with. Over the last couple of years her perspective on this changed quite a bit, especially after being saved by her friends, and her brother opens up to her. She's still reserved, but it comes across as less stand-offish than it did when she first joined the Gotei 13.

Rukia is rather intuitive, often understanding things implicitly and without words. She understands exactly what kind of person Ichigo is from his first fight onward, and immediately takes action on Orihime's behalf when Orihime is told she should stay out of the coming fights, even though Orihime insists it's ok. She's actually fairly clever, quick-thinking and good at coming up with creative solutions to situations. For instance, choosing to sleep in Ichigo's closet is actually a pretty smart solution upon finding herself stuck without powers in the living world. This applies to how she fights as well. In her fight with Riruka, for example, while trapped in a plush body, Rukia manages to hold her own against her, and could have killed her (were she willing to kill a human). She knows how to use her skills and the skills or short-comings of others to her advantage.

She is incredibly loyal to her friends, family, and allies. She feels that no one should get hurt or suffer on her behalf. But if she has to suffer to help her friends? So be it. If someone needs help, she will help them, especially if they are a human or an ally... even if it might be against the rules in some way, which lead to her troubles after helping Ichigo in the first place. She's not a rule-breaker as such, but does know when to bend them or disregard them to do what's right.

On the other hand, she tends to blame herself for things, even things that are not, strictly, her fault. She still carries guilt from having killed Kaien, the previous Vice-Captain of her squad, when he was possessed by a Hollow. She carries enough guilt over it that she was ok with her execution (she didn't want to die, but was ok with it as punishment), or with being killed by what she thought was Kaien in Hueco Mundo, as long as she could complete her duties to her friends first. She also has some guilt over the fact that she 'took away' Ichigo's supposedly normal life and threw him in the path of her brother, Soul Society, and all the rest of it. Even though he was given the power to protect people because of her actions, she still does feel bad about it. The guilt she carries is not always sensible, but it's there anyway.

She is also far, far more talented than her initial self-worth would have one believe. She was completely okay with not having a seated position when she first joined the Gotei 13 because her graduation had been accelerated and she felt she did not possess the skills to hold such a position. The real reason was that her adoptive brother had interfered, and requested she not be given a position suited to her abilities in a bid to protect her. This has changed since the series began, and her self-worth has improved massively. Fighting alongside her friends, rescuing and being rescued, coming to terms with some of her guilt, and finally being promoted to a position matched with her abilities has done a lot for her. She still has an attitude of doing her best for her friends and allies, but with far less of a sense of her best not being quite good enough.

She's not all seriousness though. Underneath her cool exterior is a girl who can be just a bit silly and sarcastic, with something of a temper. Her main interactions with her friends show a very different side than the face she tends to present to her colleagues or to strangers. She has a sly sense of humor, and will sometimes slip a dry joke even into a serious situation, such as joking while Ichigo is losing his powers. Rukia loves cute things, especially bunnies, to the extent that she even refuses to slash a plush animal while fighting Riruka just because it's so cute. In fact, all of her drawings kind of end up looking pretty bunny-like. She's very proud of her artwork though, and gets mad when people mock it. She can also be a little immature when she's mad, doing things like drawing a fake mustache on a restrained Ichigo after he insults her artwork, or just throwing her sketchbook at his face.

In situations that call for it, she's a great actor--or so she thinks. She's certainly good enough that she passes as a high school student (mostly), gets everyone out of trouble with teachers at said school, and gets Ichigo's family to let her stay with them during her second stay in the living world. On the other hand, it's implied that the teachers at Ichigo's school are maybe not the most observant, and we learn later that there is definitely more going on with Ichigo's father than is originally known, so.

Inventory:
- Shiakusho (shinigami uniform/robes)
- Lieutenant's badge
- sturdy silk half-gloves
- Her zanpakutou (sword) and sheath
- Spirit Phone (it's a flip phone, basically... with a bunny charm)

Abilities:
(There are a few, Bleach being a shonen series and all. The wiki has further details on all of these abilities, if you have any additional questions. I can, of course, answer questions regarding these abilities too.)

- Hand-to-hand combat.
Rukia is a pint-size powerhouse, able to kick and punch people several times her size with considerable force. She’s about average when it comes to skill in hand-to-hand combat, but can hold her own against most experts. However, sometimes signs of her upbringing (on the streets in the bad part of town) come through.

- Enhanced Strength & Enhanced Endurance
Shinigami tend to be able to survive things that would kill a normal human, and to be somewhat stronger than humans. Even at 144 cm and all of 33kg, Rukia can manhandle people many times her size, and has survived being impaled. More than once.

- Kido
(Spells used for things such as binding, healing, and combat, numbered 1-100. The higher the number, the harder the spell. All have incantations, but as the user gets better these may no longer be needed. Can be used one-at-a-time or in combinations.) She can pull off some fairly high-level kido without incantations, but does have to include the incantations sometimes, especially if using more than one higher-level spell at once. She has considerable power and control. Her specialties are in binding, healing, purifying and destruction.

- Shunpo/Flash Step
(A movement technique that allows the user to move faster than the eye is able to follow, getting from one place to another in as few steps as possible, making it seem as if the user has disappeared and reappeared someplace else.) Rukia is quite fast with shunpo, enough for it to be an asset to her in battle without being considered exceptional.

- Spiritual Power/Reiatsu
The spiritual pressure created by the release of spiritual power. Rukia has a large amount of reiryoku—enough to be a vice-captain—meaning she can display a great amount of reiatsu, though she rarely does. She is very good at controlling it, and when is she focused or under great stress, it can manifest as floating ice crystals.

- Swordsmanship (zanjutsu).
At this point in time she is actually quite skilled with her sword skills, though sometimes at a bit of a disadvantage simply because of her height/reach. If forced to fight using only her skill with a sword, she could hold her own and would probably not die.

Zanpakutou:
The section in the wiki
Every shinigami in the Bleach verse has a sword with its own name and spirit, called a zanpakutou, which has up to three states in most cases: Sealed, shikai, and bankai. At this canonpoint Rukia has not yet achieved bankai, so we don't have to worry about that...for now. Calling your attacks is big in Bleach, so almost all of her special attacks have names.
- Sealed: looks like a normal katana.
- Shikai: The release call is "Dance".
When released, the entire katana, including the guard and hilt, are pure white, with a long white ribbon trailing from the end of the hilt. Its release command is 舞え (mae—dance), and this transformation brings a rush of cold air and possibly fog with it. However, it's technically not the blade that's cold: it actually lowers the body temperature of the wielder herself. While she later on learns to control this to an extreme degree, she cannot do so yet.

Shikai abilities:
Sode no Shirayuki has several abilities, called dances.
- Some no mai (first dance), Tsukishiro: Rukia slashes with the blade, and a variable-size circle of ice that freezes anything it touches appears around her target. This circle has influence not only on a flat plane, but extending up as well. This ice can then be shattered, shattering any victims who happen to be trapped inside
- Tsugi no mai (second dance), Hakuren: Piercing the ground several times with the blade, Rukia then takes up a battle stance while up-flowing particles gather from the pierces. When a sufficient amount has gathered, they fire towards the target in a massive wall of white ice, freezing whatever it strikes.
- San no mai (third dance), Shirafune: If the blade is ever broken, she can use this dance to reforge it out of ice particles—even through solid objects like an opponent. This ice then freezes everything else it touches.
- Juhaku: Rukia stabs the ground with her zanpakutou, and a trail of ice is created, leading to her target, freezing it from the bottom up once it reaches it, turning it all into ice.
- Ice rope: This one she doesn't have to call, so it doesn't have a name. Essentially she can create a rope of flexible ice to her zanpakutou in order to use its abilities even when separated from it.

Flaws:
- She gets angry over silly things like people insulting her art and retaliates by throwing things, drawing fake mustaches, etc.
- Apparently thinks the best way of getting through to some people (namely Ichigo, Renji, etc.) is yelling at them, smacking them about, etc. She's often right, but it's not exactly nice.
- Blames herself even for things that are not her fault--sometimes to a bit of an extreme.
- Can come across as cold, prideful, or stuck-up (when the reality is much different).
- Seems to have no problem at all telling lies to people like Ichigo's schoolmates, his family, or even "borrowing" Yuzu's clothes. (In fact, technically she stole one of Yuzu's dresses outright, since she was wearing it when she was taken back to Soul Society...) Doesn't seem to feel overly bad about any of this.
